SAN DIEGO — A 41-year-old man was in custody Monday on suspicion of drunken
driving after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5.
Raul Hernandez was travelling northbound on I-5 just north of State Route 905
about 1:45 a.m. when his vehicle struck a Chevrolet Malibu parked on the right
shoulder, California Highway Patrol officer Jesse Udovich said.
The crash caused the Malibu to overturn several times. The victim sustained
minor injuries, Udovich said.
The driver allegedly of the Malibu had a flat tire and was waiting for
assistance when he was struck, according to CHP traffic website.
Hernandez was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of drunken
driving. He was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Chula
Vista courthouse, according to the jail website.
Bail was set at $100,000.
