Police got a call at 8:40 p.m. Monday from a woman reporting that her 24-year-old daughter had been kidnapped by an ex-boyfriend from an apartment complex in the 3900 block of West Fifth St., Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
The woman’s mother told police her daughter jumped out of her car as they were arriving at the complex and ran into the apartment to use the restroom. But by the time the mom got there, her daughter was gone.
Moments later, the daughter called her family and said her ex-boyfriend had taken her.
“There was a struggle heard in the background before the line was disconnected,” Bertagna said.
The daughter called her family a second time. Screaming and yelling could be heard in the background and then the line went dead.
During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Bobby August Jr., 29, of Perris who had a parole warrant for grand-theft auto, Bertagna said.
At 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, detectives found the victim and August in a vacant home in Perris in Riverside County.
August was arrested on suspicion of felony kidnapping, felony false imprisonment and for having a parole warrant. He is being held without bail.
The victim was unharmed.
