Stabbing at Costa Mesa tiki bar

COSTA MESA – A man was stabbed after trying to break up a fight outside a tiki bar early Saturday.

Ismael Sandoval, 26, of Costa Mesa told police he stepped outside the Tiki Bar OC, 1700 Placentia Ave., about 2:37 a.m. to take a smoke break. He tried to break up a fight between a man and a woman and was stabbed multiple times, Costa Mesa police Lieutenant Tim Schennum said.

Sandoval called a friend and got dropped off at Hoag Hospital Memorial Presbyterian. He was treated for stab wounds in his chest and arm and was released, police said.

Sandoval has local gang ties but it is not yet known if the stabbing was gang-related, Schennum said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Rob Hanson at 714-754-5162 or Sergeant Ed Everett at 714-754-5395.
